Great companies recognize their employees as their greatest asset. They invest in beautiful office spaces, advanced technology, training, and the mental health and psychological safety of their employees. However, when conflict among employees goes unaddressed and tension is allowed to build, morale worsens. Employees continue to want to serve their clients in an efficient, respectful, kind, and professional manner but they struggle due to poor work relationships. Bullying may go unreported, or employees do not ask for assistance due to fears of looking unprofessional or for fear of retaliation. If conflicts go unaddressed they can lead to further employee dissatisfaction. Employees leave when relationships with co-workers do not improve and they blame the company and managers for their negative experiences. As you well know the recruitment and training of new staff can be expensive. However, by addressing employee conflict and deficiencies in diversity and inclusion retention can improve.
Mediation can be an incredibly useful tool in helping employees workout differences. Mediation helps the parties to identify issues and explore options for a mutually acceptable outcome. Mediation helps the parties to resolve the dispute themselves and it seeks to ensure that the parties arrive at a voluntary, un-coerced decision. Parties are enabled to see each other's point of view and through mediation each party gains a sense of their own value and strength and are empowered to resolve their own future problems. Your employees will gain greater clarity of what their deeper needs are.
